Family Life & Pre-CareerAmy was born in Norrköping, Sweden to a Swedish mother (Chrisbeth) and an English father (Lee). She has one older sister Danielle and two younger sisters Lisa and Holly as well as one younger brother Charlie. She spend the first four years of her life living in England, which would account for her perfect English pronunciation as well as her British accent while speaking in English. She moved to Jönköping, Sweden with her family at four years old where she still currently resides. At age 6 she began figure skating and would practice six times a week. She has won many gold medals for her performances as a figure skater. She also attended a dance school called Blandgodis, as well as taking part in TV and theater shows, giving her much experience in public performing. One notable performance was a small role in a television show titled De drabbade. Despite being talented as a figure skater and actress, her passion has always been for singing. She has stated that she had been singing since the age of two and would often sing along to the song "[All That She Wants]" by the Swedish group "[Ace of Base]." Once she began to win many talent performances for singing Amy knew she wouldn't be able to keep up with her rigid figure skating schedule while perusing her dream career as a singer. She made the decision to give up figure skating full time and only skate as a hobby, in order to continue her singing career. She took the name "Diamond" in place of her real surname in order to keep her private life separate from her public life. "Diamond" was chosen by Amy because it is her birthstone (April) as well as being her lucky stone. Early CareerAmy has performed in various singing and talent competitions since a young age (winning the majority of them), the first nationally televised one being the Swedish talent show Småstjärnorna (the Swedish word småstjärnorna means "Small Stars" in English) in 2000. During this competition she dressed as Belinda Carlisle, dyed her hair red, lip synced and danced to Belinda's hit song "Heaven Is a Place On Earth." Amy recieved 3rd place in this competition. Here is a link to the performance (you may need to right click and choose save link as to download). After this Amy continued to perform (and win) many Swedish based talent shows, the next TV broadcasted one being Swedish channel TV4's show Super Troupers where Amy performed a cover of the song Underneath Your Clothes by Shakira. In this performance Amy won the semi-final and received 3rd place in the final. The judges described her voice as secure and balanced and mentioned that she had sang the song better than the original. You can download the semi-final here and the final here. Due to the amount of people who watch this show Amy received a relatively large fan base after this performance, and her recognition as a talented singer started to grow noticeably. Amy enjoys school and knew it would be valuable not to let her career influence her schoolwork, as school would allow her other options if she did not want to sing anymore. She rarely misses a day, often opting to do gigs and promotional appearances only on the weekends. If she does miss a day she makes up the required work at home. Her favorite subjects are math, P.E., and sewing. If she could not be a singer she would like to be a hairdresser, and currently practices cutting and styling hair as a hobby. First Album & 2005-2006In 2004 Amy entered the Mix Megapol Summer Idol contest, she won the first place prize: to record a song in a professional studio. During the recording a person from the judging panel of the contest offered Amy a record deal with Bonnier Amigo. Amy recorded her debut single "What's In It For Me?" in less than 90 minutes. One of her songwriters, Markus Sepehrmanesh, said that she had sang it perfectly. The single was released on Febuary 16th, 2005 (Amy was 12 years old). "What's In It For Me?" became a huge sucess, it reached the number one position on the Swedish singles chart in March and eventually went platinum. Some Swedish TV stations did not want to broadcast the song, stating that Amy Diamond was too young to sing a song with adult themes. Amy herself did not feel the song was too adult for her to sing, and it did receive extensive radio airplay and became somewhat of a theme song for the summer after it's release. After the sucess of Amy's first single, an album was authorized by Bonnier Amigo and they went to work on recording "This Is Me Now." The album was released in May 2005 and sold more than 150,000 copies (three times the required amount for Gold status in Sweden at the time). This sucess lead to Amy appearing on more than 20 different television shows (including Tracklistan and Vi i femman) before the end of the year, as well as appearing on many televised concerts throughout her summer tour in Sweden where she was accompanied by a live band; including a drummer, guitarist, bassist, background singer and keyboardist who also sang backup vocals. The songs from "This Is Me Now" (except "If I Ain't Got You (Live)" and "Tomorrow (Annie's Song)") were written by the Company Ten team Tysper, Mack, and Grizzly. At this point Amy signed a distribution deal with Warner Music Group in July to promote her album outside of Sweden. She no longer appeared with her usual band and would instead perform to a background track and live dancers, or occasionally with various musicians, but none of her original band members. The album gained much popularity in the other Nordic countries as well as Poland and Germany, and "What's In It For Me?" became the 19th most played song of 2005 in Finland. In the summer the songs "Welcome to the City" and "Champion" from this album were released as singles. Near the end of 2005 Amy went on tour throughout Europe, her record deal allowed for her family to travel with her. Amy was nominated for several awards in 2005, and at age 13 she was the youngest person to ever receive "Best Nordic Hit" from the Nordic Music Awards for her song "What's In It For Me?" (see her acceptance speech here. She also became the youngest artist to receive two NRJ Radio Awards at once and the youngest to be nominated for the Swedish Grammy Awards (Grammis). She won the Swedish Grammy for Best Swedish Female Artist, Song of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year. She also received a Nickelodeon award for Hit Song of the Year and had nominations for the Swedish Rockbjörnen award. Second Album & 2006-2007Cover of Amy's second album "Still Me Still Now" released in 2006. (age 13) In Febuary 2006 Amy started work on recording her second album entitled "Still Me Still Now." Songwriters sent Amy examples of songs and she choose her prefered songs for the album. You can view part of the making of the album here. The album was recoreded over four weekends, completing two or three of the songs per weekend. It was released in May 2006, while the first single "Don't Cry Your Heart Out" was released a few weeks earlier. This album was anticipated greatly and two days before the release during an interview on TV4's morning talk show Nyhetsmorgon the host had the honor of presenting Amy with her gold certification, as the record had reached the required status for gold on pre-sales alone. You can view the video here. The album continued mostly with the happy-go-lucky pop style of "This Is Me Now" with the exceptions of a few songs which were arranged similar to the tunes of musicals. During the summer of 2006, Amy performed in the Diggiloo tour. It was there that she first performed (among other songs) her rendition of Edith Piaf's song "Je ne regrette rien," showcasing her ability to sing in French. The newspaper Aftonbladet voted her as the 2006 Summer Tour Queen. From this album two more singles were to be released later in the year; "Big Guns" and "It Can Only Get Better." She would continue to perform live and televised shows some of which included the popular Swedish shows Sommarkrysset, Gokväll, and Vinterkrysset. She is a talented live performer, often singing without a playback tape. She also is very skilled at choreographed dancing while she sings. During this year's concerts and performances Amy appeared almost always with red hair, A change from her natural brunnette. She would eventually start her own fan club which publishes a quarterly magazine called Amy Diamond Fanzine. She also did print modeling for a mail-order catalogue for Ellos, as well as doing some promotional work for Statoil and Stadium. In december she would perform as the Ice Princess in the Swedish Christmas Calander (once again appearing as a brunette) displaying her somewhat less known talents as an actress and figure skater.
